Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground

Some of my family's favorite memories of Disney World is the time we've spent at Disney's Fort Wilderness Campground. We liked the secluded campsites, roasting marshmallows at the fun sing-a-longs, and the special night water parades.

Disney World was a true pioneer in the campground industry when it opened in 1971. The 700-acre resort has earned recognition by guests and accolades throughout the camping industry for its accommodations, recreation and dining.

So, if you crave natural rustic charm, but still want to visit the most magical place on Earth, this is the place to stay.

Amenities

Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground includes both campsites and cabins:

Campsites: A total of 784 campsites for tents and recreational vehicles of all sizes feature level, paved pads with a coquina rock bed, charcoal grill, picnic table and hook-ups for water, electric, sewer and cable. Campsites are secluded from adjoining sites by trees and other natural surroundings and are conveniently located near air-conditioned comfort stations with restrooms, private showers, laundry facilities, ice dispensers and pay telephones.

Cabins: The resort's newest woodland dwellings are an option for guests who enjoy the great outdoors but prefer hotel suite-type accommodations. These 406 luxury cabins, located throughout the pine-filled forest, sleep six and offer many of the comforts of home. Each log cabin is air-conditioned and features a master bedroom, separate sitting area, fully equipped kitchen and private patio deck with a charcoal grill and picnic table. The bedroom provides a full-size bed and twin-size bunk beds. The adjacent sitting area features vaulted ceilings, comfortable furniture, a full-size, pull-down bed, color cable television, VCR, telephone and a spacious oval dining table. The cabin is stocked with many "home-away-from-home" amenities such as appliances, linens, dishes and cooking utensils. However, guests can leave all the housework at home — daily housekeeping service is provided to all Wilderness Cabins!

Recreation

There is a wide range of recreation available at Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground, including horseback riding, exploring nature trails, relaxing on white sanc beaches, canoeing through streams, swimming in two pools, boat and bike rentals, fishing excursions, a petting farm and pony rides for children.
