Help im going to germany and need to learn german fast?

Hi. I am italian native speaker and moved to Germany 6 ys. ago without speaking a word of German. 16 months later I got my first job here and one in which I needed to use German.
As soon as I got here I started a course at the Volkshochschule (popular university): I attended 2 hours classes every evening, 4x a week. After one here I passed my certificate exam (Zertifikat Deutsch) with flying colors. I could have done even faster, but I was working during the day, so no time for that.
You need to do regularly your homework and study regularly, but it works out well. I was watching german Tv to improve my understanding and looked for german speaking friends.
I think it's much easier to learn a language if you are in the country where it is spoken, since you learn a lot also passively.
Goethe Insitut and Universities are also very good addresses to look for German courses for foreigners.
Intensive courses to reach a basic knowledge can last as little as one month (the girlfriend of a co-worker is attending such a crash-course)
