My Europe Route... Any suggestions?

My friends and I are going to Europe in October... we are starting and finishing in Paris and are visiting quite a few places in between including spain, switzerland, italy, germany & amsterdam. Is that too much to see in 17 days, should we try to narrow it down? Or is there anywhere else that we absolutley should see?
To be honest, it is far too much for only 17 days. You've listed six countries. That's an average of just 3 days per country. By the time that you factor in travel time between your destinations, you will have very little time to see anything. I can tell you from personal experience that you can spend 5-7 days just in Paris and not see everything that is worthwhile.

I suggest that you cut it down to no more than three cities, including Paris. Read a good guidebook to see what appeals to you and base your decision on that, with some allowance for distances. (I like Rick Steves' guides, but there are other good ones, too.) You'll be able to relax, enjoy the sites, and enjoy the culture. There's far more to Europe than what you see through train and car windows - which is all that you will experience with this itinerary.

When I first started traveling to Europe, I tried to do too much too fast. I learned quickly.
