Puerto Rico has some of the nicest beaches of the Caribbean. Some are a bit hard to get to, but once you get there, you just won't want to leave! I will recommend to get there early, since the beaches in Puerto Rico do fill up quickly and the best spots around the beaches are numbered.

1. Flamenco Beach, Culebra - this one is not actually on the main Island, you'd have to ferry/fly to Culebra. It's was rated the number one beach (by Travel Channel) in 2002 (I think - not exactly sure of the year.) It gets crowded quickly, so I'd suggest getting there early.

2. Playa Sucia, Cabo Rojo - This is a little easier to get to, but still a 3-hour drive from the airport and the Hotel Strip in Isla Verde. Located in a secluded, but well-known spot in Cabo Rojo, Playa Sucia has been a runner up for best beach a few times. You can spend the day at the beach or take a hike up to the lighthouse and take in some breathtaking views of the coastline. You should bring a beach umbrella - there's not a lot of cover from sun in the trees.

3. Playa Aviones - Located in Loiza, Playa Aviones could actually translate into a fantastic day at the beach. Beautiful scenery set against lush greens - you might just want to lie in the sand as the sun cooks you and you relax to the sound of the waves.

4. Turtuga Bay, Culebra - if you decide to head down to Culebra, this should be the next hot stop spot on your list. Another beautiful addition to Culebra's award winning beaches.

5. Gilligan's Island, Gu?nica - Get there early, because Gilligan's Island is a key off the coast of Gu?nica and this teeny island has a maximum capacity. What it lacks in size it more than makes up for beauty with crystal clear blue waters and mangrove canals. Spend the day splashing about the water or spotting colorful marine wildlife.
