In Rome, Campo de Fiori is a good place to go bar hopping -- Testaccio is where a lot of the clubs are and Trastevere has lots of good restaurants and night life. It's really worth springing for a Time Out guide to Rome for that sort of stuff and their website is good. There is a lot to chose from in Rome.
