Travelling to South America?

I live in Panama and want to travel to South America next year. I do not want to fly. Anyone know if there are boats going from the canal to say Equador or Columbia? Where can I search on the net for information?
Then, after SA we want to go by boat to Africa. Any helpful searches out there?
thanks in advance
The majority of boats that make the trip from Panama to Cartagena are sail boats. Most of the captains charge US$275 per person all meals included. The boats leave from Portobello, El Porvenir and SanBlas. The trip to Cartagena usually takes two days but most of the boats spend 2 or 3 days sailing in the San Blas Is.before departing for Colombia.
For a boat broker,I have always had good luck with Mamallena's hostel in PanamaCity. See link below.

From South America to Africa is another story.I only know of one ship that departs Buenos Aries for Cape Town, South Africa.I can't remember the fare exactly but I do remember that it was well over US$10,000. Any ship travel would depend on the country/port you would be leaving from in S.A. and what port you needed in Africa.

There are some freighters today that have a few cabins available for travelers. These are working boats, not cruise ships. For about US$150 per person per day which includes meals you can expect a clean, comfortable cabin and to dine with the ships officers, but you won't find any bingo games, chocolate fountains, or five piece bands.

Feel free to email me if you have any other questions or concerns. Buena Suerte!
