What are the best things to visit in Florence. i would like to see things like lakes and landscape or things you wouldn't find in Rome. What is it like in Florence? Is it a good contrast to Rome? I'm only there for a day. Is it worth making the long trip there from Rome? I intend to go to the gardens and the leaning tower of pisa.
If you only have a day in Florence, I would be removing the leaning tower of Pisa from my agenda. It takes too long to get there and is a bit of a let-down when you do. I'd be staying in Florence, and would see the following:

1. The Duomo and the Piazza della Signoria

2. The Uffizzi - if only for the Botticelli room. But PREBOOK your tickets for the earliest entry time

3. Spend a couple of hours in the market near San Lorenzo

4. Have a Florentine steak (bistecca)

5. The Ponte Vecchio and the Arno

See if you can get another day there and visit San Gimignano ('the Manhattan of the Renaissance') and Siena, one of the most beautiful places in Tuscany.
