What is the best route from Bangalore to Maravanthe?

this is the shortest route
the distance will be 410k.m.
you have to travel from banglore to manglore in NH 48

and then you have to travel up to Maravanthe beach in national highway no 17

but my dear some of my friends told the road is muddy and also in a very bad condition in nh 48
you have another route via mysore and then to madikeri and from there to manglore and then from there to nh 17 to Maravanthe beach.
please check the road of the both route with local people which is the best as i have not gone from last one year
some body said in the yahoo answer about the road (see my old answers).
you can cover this route maximum in 10 to 12 hours.
