What type of keyboard do people use to type in China?
How do people type in chinese characters?
Just always wondered... are there like a million keys, or does each key represent a mark in a different direction, or is it like a software thing? They use the same keyboard as you do. Each chinese character has an equivalent word spelled using english characters. This system is called Pinyin. So to write the name of the chinese capital, the writer would type "bei" and "jing" and the computer would look up and display the corresponding chinese characters on the screen. All the chinese characters have the pinyin equivalent.
This system also allows them to "alphabetize" the chinese characters. Otherwise, looking up a "@#$" in a dictionary would be difficult.
